Every sector thinks it’s uniquely tough, transport included.

But Jonny Mood (director of the National Audit Office) has seen it all - rail reform, prison reform, EU Exit - and he says the same things are hard everywhere: Risk, Change, Politics, Delivery.

That’s good news. Because if your challenges aren’t unique, your solutions don’t have to be either. The trick isn’t inventing new ways to fix things : it’s borrowing from people who’ve already been through it.

Build a culture of cross-sector learning. Ask one team member each month to bring back a lesson from outside your organisation - and, where appropriate, trial it.

Ask who else has faced this challenge? (Even in a totally different sector.) Then buy them coffee and steal their ideas.
